STOP
FORCED HMONG REPATRIATION!
Amnesty International, is a global
movement of 2.2 million people seeking to end critical abuses of
human rights. This organization and fellow citizens of La Crosse
are asking everyone to “take action now” on
behalf of our Hmong allies.
Please consider writing to President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and your
congressional representatives. Ask them to put pressure on Thailand
to stop the repatriation of Hmong Refugees to Laos, release 158
refugees detained at Nong Khai Immigration Detention Center, and to
allow the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to
screen all refugees who are currently in Huay Nam Khao camp in
Phetchabun Province, Thailand.

Approximately, 5,000 Hmong
Lao people have been living in the Huay Nam Khao camp since 2004.
The great majority have not had the opportunity to seek asylum
through fair and full procedures. Many of these Hmong and their
families are former allies from the Vietnam War. They have been
hiding in the jungles of Lao for the past 30 years. The Lao
Government wants to exterminate this group of Hmong to the root.
They are in Thailand seeking for refugee’s status. If they return,
they could be tortured and and/or killed. Thousands have escaped the
jungles and surrendered inside Laos the past, but no one knows if
they alive or dead, because no third party like the United Nations
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been allowed inside Laos.
Here are the video links: Stop the
Repatriation
Since 2008, the Thai
government returned more than 2,000 from this camp to Laos. Even
though the Thai government claims that the returns are
voluntary, there are reports to contradict these claims. If the
Hmong Lao people are being forced to return, this would be in
violation of international human rights law and standards. Under
customary international law, all countries are governed by the
principle of non-refoulement, which says that no one
person may be returned to a country where he/she would be at
risk of serious human rights violations. Thank you for your
support!
